it stems from a secret project i'm working on for an illuminated 3d modular space hulk board. i've got some friends i'm getting to look into diy lighting kits for terrain and dioramas. flickering atmospheric lights, flame effects etc.

i think there are a few things that can be done for an ecoria model set
similar to the old cardstock printed sets GW used to offer, you can have some thick card as the basis for the walls, sparing Ed from having to cast large flat panels. and then have anchor/tab pieces which hold it together. granted this could either be a quick assembly for pickup games or or permanently glued.
you could likewise make doors or open arcades using the anchor pieces/frames by not having any card between them. they can be utilitarian or arched, Gothic etc
also you have decorative addons
stuff like the hirstarts, but instead of full on building blocks, they could just be environmental-themes decorative pieces. maybe they're glued to the aforementioned printed cardstock, or just stuff customers obtain on their own (cereal boxes, plasticard, etc)
also I saw this a while back as a possible grisliness to Ecoria of how people obtain electricity in SITA, watch the vid:
Didn't know in which of the TMFT thread I had to post this, so thought this one would be most fitting.
Found another possible competitor we'd need to look at: Mantic.
Their kits seem very modular, and not too expensive.
Upsides: 1) Cheaper than Forgeworld! At least on first glance. 2)Fully modular, you can go in all directions. Want some single level floorplans or multiple story buildings? No problem!
Downsides 1) The walls seem a bit thin. Whilst that doesn't matter so much, but I believe the thicker versions we've got just give the model a lot more chunk and make it look more powerful. 2) Lack of character. Well, it's a very subjective thing I guess. Whilst I sort of like the kit, it feels a bit too generic. Nothing wrong with generic, but it doesn't really seem to have an aesthetic identity of its own, making it look like "OMG we desperately need to do something not grimdark!!!"
In other words: food for thought.
Bits Blitz - the place to be for all your bits needs!
It is something to think about if we start building army bases, or research stations built out of modular parts (kinda like this building made out of cargo containers).
We could create a wall set for the TMFT with 'exterior' detailing, or an add on kit for exterior walls, and perhaps with windows and such in them.
The modular research stations and such could be built anywhere in the game world, even under the sea!
It might be nice to build massive 'lab' rooms using the internal walls, and then lots of corridors leading form a central hub to power plants, hab units, and isolation labs/ quarantine cells.
Hmm, I was just thinking that the current wall design would work quite well, with the lower connector part of the wall, when seen from the outside, being a concrete footing, and the top part of the wall sitting on top of these concrete footings.
On the Mk IV wall the outer groove could be used to add stabiliser struts.
