Inspired by John Bauer's troll artwork, I have decided that I am going to try and pull off my own trolls for Troll Forged. They will be a contrast to Ed's trolls in that they are going to have a totally different look and feel. These pictures should help demonstrate what I mean;
I think that my first go will be at Warrior characters, as these would be get the most interest at first (they can be used in various table top wargames easier). I am thinking that they should be wearing fairly decent wargear, though it should look random somewhat. And their weapons might resemble something a Viking warrior would carry. Though I am open to ideas regarding it. I am also thinking; should I make the options to arm the troll with two hand weapons, a shield or a great weapon?

But yeah, as for trolls. I always imagined them to be quite savage and not that intelligent or anything. Most of the time running around naked, if they were to have armour on or such it would have been put on by others such as humans or orcs who have subjugated some trolls.
Big noses filled with snot, zits and such on the faces and body (not too much, but a big zit on the nose is a must!), the long hair is cool too but don't make it too straight, I mean it's not like these trolls have their personal stylist, so long scruffy and dirty hair. If you were to include one with an open mouth you might want to show its teeth, I guess many could have fallen out or have broken over the years, a few sharp ones remain in the mouth.
As for weapons, I would stay away from shields, keep the weapons rather crude and simple. Clubs, axes, hammers, that sort of thing. Either one in each hand, or a larger one in two hands. Or simply have some more savage ones as well, with a weapon in one hand and a corpse in the other or something?

I want to go the totally opposite direction to what you are talking about, malika. The John Bauer trolls seem quite civilised and from what I could find from Bland tomtar och troll. The impression I get from them is that they are generally peaceful and reasonably intelligent woodsfolk. It makes sense to give them proper equipment as they seem like they would be capable of looking after themselves easily enough.
When I said I was going to be doing them totally opposite to Ed's trolls, I really meant it.
A short update; I have just about dealt with the basic groundwork of their heads, and I will be posting a WIP thread when there is something to really take a look at. I am sculpting their heads first, as I find that the head and face are the focal point of the model and dictate the flow of the miniature, as well as the proportions and scale.
Though, when I come to the body work, does anyone know any cheap putty I can use to do the basic work? Using that much green stuff seems a waste and expensive.
You could use fimo. You have to bake it so you can work on it as long as you like. It's quite cheap and gives a good base. I even use it for smaller mini's. You could even do more detailed work with it.
